Chevrolet To Add 2500 Series And "The North Face" Edition To Avalanche Lineup
2002 Chevrolet Avalanche "North Face" Edition Photo: GM DETROIT, MI - Utilizing the ingenious Convert-a-Cabtm system featuring the industry-exclusive Midgatetm, Chevrolet has created the only vehicle on the market that can reconfigure from a six-passenger sport utility vehicle (SUV) to a full-size pickup with an eight-foot protected cargo box - the all-new Avalanche. Chevy will add two more models to the Avalanche mix with a new 2500 Series truck and "The North Face" edition. Both new versions of the Avalanche will be available later this year and will broaden the scope of the vehicle to meet more specialized consumer needs. The Avalanche 2500 Series will likely be purchased by consumers who have heavy-duty applications needs, primarily towing boats, RV's, etc., which go beyond everyday driving. The North Face edition will have features that will further expand the capabilities of the Avalanche to meet the needs of outdoor enthusiasts. "Both the new 2500 Series and The North Face edition Avalanche will give Chevy the opportunity to meet a broader base of consumer needs in a full-size, cleverly adaptable truck," stated Ed Schoener, Avalanche brand manager. "We now have a truck that offers unparalleled innovation and adaptability with the exclusive Convert-a-Cabtm system, while offering a model to accommodate the specific needs of outdoor enthusiasts and a heavy-duty truck that can handle almost any need for power." Avalanche 2500 Series The most significant difference in the Avalanche 2500 Series will be the power under the hood. While the 1500 version of the Avalanche supplies an ample 285 horsepower in a 5.3-liter V8, the 2500 Series will utilize the new Vortec 8100. This new Vortec engine, which has received high praise for its use in the all-new Silverado Heavy-Duty Pickup, will be mated with a 4L80 Automatic Transmission w/overdrive and tow/haul mode. The engine will provide 340 horsepower at 4200 RPM and 455 lb-ft of torque at 3200 RPM. Also notable on the 2500 Series will be a 37.5-gallon fuel tank, 6.5 gallons more capacity than the fuel tank of the 1500 Series. A transmission temperature gauge, multileaf rear suspension, 16" forged aluminum wheels, and a 12,000-lb maximum towing capability are also available, as well as an optional snow plow prep package, increasing its versatility. The North Face Edition Avalanche has partnered with The North Face, the premier supplier of authentic, innovative and technically advanced exploration apparel, footwear, equipment and accessories. The North Face has a 33-year heritage of exploring the remotest lands in the world and with the help of its athlete team, developing the most technically innovative and advanced products in the outdoor industry. The North Face edition of Avalanche will have some very unique features that will undoubtedly please outdoor enthusiasts. Along with unique door trim panels, The North Face inspired interior features green and black seats, aggressive floor mats and white instrument cluster, all with The North Face logo.
