LEONI: Porsche Supplier of the Year

Almost 50 years of successful cooperation between Porsche and LEONI

Nürnberg/Kitzingen The Porsche AG has awarded LEONI Bordnetz-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG as best supplier of the year 2000. Uwe H. Lamann, Member of the Board responsible for this business division, was presented the Supplier Award in the course of the Porsche Lieferantentages (Porsche Supplier Day) held in Ludwigsburg on 31 January 2001, in the presence of around 200 invited guests and the Porsche Chairman of the Board, Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking. Criteria for the awarding are quality, service, innovation and communication.

Flawless delivery service

In 1999/2000, LEONI was able to close all delivery activities without a single flaw. This performance can be rated even higher for the reason that more than 5 million different wiring harnesses are possible for the Porsche 911 alone due to the various vehicle designs. Furthermore, it may only take seven days between the time of order calling at the the Slovakian LEONI production site in Trencin and the delivery at the Porsche plant.

Development supplier for 911 and Boxster

The Porsche AG are among the five major customers of the LEONI AGıs Wiring Systems Division. LEONI has been working with Porsche since the beginning of the 1950s. The first deliveries were for tractors still built by Porsche back then. Nowadays, LEONI is development supplier for both the successful models 911 and Boxster and thus responsible for the complete electric wiring harness.

For decades, LEONI and Porsche have been successfully working together for a number of innovations. For example, LEONI developed in the 1970s weight optimized automotive wires which save up to 25 % of weight compared to common wires. Questions concerning weight, space and fitting in sports cars led to innovations such as the preformed cable harness or a multiplex system. The most current development is a convertible roof guidance mechanism which now controls the Boxter roofıs position in every phase of operation.
