Audi review of 2001
Ingolstadt - "With its successful business policy, Audi has once again recorded substantial increases," announced Dr. Franz-Josef Paefgen, Chairman of AUDI AG, today in an initial review of the past financial year. Paefgen: "Sales of Audi models have risen by around 50 percent since 1996." The revenue of the Audi Group for the 2001 financial year increased to a total of around EUR 22.0 billion (2000: EUR 20.0 billion). 726,134 Audi vehicles were sold worldwide, 11.1 percent more than in the previous year. In addition, 297 Lamborghini sports cars were sold (up 0.3 percent). Together with the other brands of the Volkswagen Group sold through Autogerma in Italy, the Audi Group sold a total of 991,444 vehicles. Sales in Germany totalled 254,866 units (up 6.4 percent). Audi was able to increase its share of the German market in 2001 to 7.5 percent (6.9 percent in the previous year). 304,100 Audi cars were sold in Europe (excluding Germany) (up 13.0 percent). Sales of Audi vehicles in the USA reached 83,282 units (up 3.6 percent). The number of vehicles sold in Japan climbed by 16.6 percent to 8,127 units. 75,758 cars (up 32.0 percent) were delivered to customers in other markets. This includes 29,370 vehicles sold in China (up 68.3 percent). Vehicle production in the Audi Group rose in 2001 by 11.7 percent to 727,033 units, including 280 sports cars built by the Italian subsidiary Lamborghini. A total of 1,225,448 engines were produced (up 3.2 percent). The number of employees in the Audi Group had increased by the end of the year to 50,942 employees (up 0.8 percent) worldwide and to 44,155 employees (up 0.7 percent) at AUDI AG (German plants).
