Mazda Announces Senior Management Changes

HIROSHIMA, JAPAN - Mazda Motor Corporation announced of a number of senior management changes as of March 1, 2002 and March 31, 2002.

Hisakazu Imaki, Senior Managing Director in charge of production engineering, manufacturing and business logistics is appointed Representative Director, Executive Vice President and Chief Engineering & Manufacturing Officer in charge of R&D, production, quality assurance and business logistics as of March 1, 2002.

Paul Stokes, Director, General Manager of Purchasing Division will leave Mazda as of March 31, 2002. Mark Fields, President of Mazda said, "Mr. Stokes has played important role in Mazda's new purchasing strategy "global optimum sourcing". Due to such strategies, Mazda's purchasing cost has been reduced over the years, which has contributed significantly to Mazda's current profitability. His support in Mr. Fujiwara's Purchasing Division was significant for the entire Mazda financial structure. He returns to Ford with the best wishes of the entire team at Mazda for future success." Mr. Stokes new role will be announced separately by Ford at a later date.

Kei Kado, Senior Managing Director in charge of R&D, quality assurance and six sigma will be appointed Senior Managing Director in charge of Technical Research Center, quality assurance and six sigma as of March 1, 2002.

Ryoichi Hasegawa, Senior Managing Director in charge of IT solution, e-Business, general affairs, legal affairs and Osaka Branch; assistant to the CFO will additionally be in charge of risk management as of March 1, 2002.

Hitoshi Inoue, Managing Director, assistant to officer in charge of product development and quality assurance will be in charge of R&D technical administration; assistant to Chief Engineering & Manufacturing Officer as of March 1, 2002.

Fumiaki Inami, Managing Director in charge of corporate benchmarking; General Manager, Product Planning & Business Strategy Division will be in charge of product strategy and corporate benchmarking as of March 1, 2002.

Masaharu Yamaki, Director, General Manager, Product Engineering Division will be in charge of manufacturing and business logistics as of March 1, 2002.

Nobuhide Inamoto, Director, General Manager, Business Logistics Division will be Director, General Manager, Production Engineering Division.

Lewis Booth will join Mazda Motor Corporation from Ford as Senior Advisor in charge of corporate strategy. He is currently President, Asia Pacific and Africa Operations for Ford Motor Company.

Imaki joined Mazda in 1965 and has concentrated his career and expertise in the area of production engineering and production planning. He was appointed Director in 1993 and Managing Director in 1997 and led various vehicle mass production launches, including most recently the first jointly developed vehicle with Ford, Tribute/Escape in October 2000 and Mazda's new generation mid-size car Atenza/Mazda6 in the middle of this month. This new position as Representative Director and EVP is a tribute to his exceptional abilities and leadership.

Fields said, "As Mazda rolls out our aggressive product-led recovery, it is necessary to appoint a senior member of staff to ensure close integration of the manufacturing and R&D functions. Hisakazu Imaki's track record in this field is recognized across the industry - he will make an outstanding leader in this role for Mazda."

Booth is currently President, Asia Pacific and Africa Operations for Ford Motor Company a post he took up on January 1, 2000. He has operational responsibility for South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and India and for developing Ford's strategy in the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to this position, he was Group Managing Director of the South Africa Motor Corporation (currently Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa) since July 1997. Fields said, "We are all happy to welcome Mr. Booth as a member of Mazda management team. He has broad management experience across R&D, manufacturing and sales. He also has significant knowledge and experience in the Asian-Pacific region."
