"The Asian American Advertising Federation chose to bestow this honor on GM for its commitment and respect for the Asian American market," said Jon Yasuda, President of the Asian American Advertising Federation. After retaining a new advertising agency, A Partnership, Inc. of New York late last year, and GM developed new marketing campaigns to introduce specific Cadillac and Buick vehicles to Asian American consumers. New television spots and print ads were created to speak to specific Asian American audiences in ways that are culturally relevant to them. GM also has sponsored many key organizations that support the advancement of Asian Americans, and participated in various Asian cultural events for the past few years. "Armed with support of senior executives, we've pooled resources from various parts of the company including philanthropy, community relations, marketing, public relations, and employee resource groups and developed integrated and targeted marketing communications programs to reach Asian American customers," said Katherine Zhang, GM's Marketing Manager for the Asian American Market. "We are delighted to be recognized by the advertising community for our recent efforts to try new ideas and come up with different ways to communicate to Asian American consumers." Through its philanthropic giving, community relations and marketing programs, GM supports programs and events that further the progress of the Asian American community both within and outside the company.
