Former GM Kenya Ltd. Name Change to General Motors East Africa Ltd.
 

Miramar, FL - General Motors (Kenya) Ltd. has announced a change in the company name to General Motors East Africa Ltd., which reflects the region of Africa that it serves.

William Lay, Managing Director of General Motors East Africa Limited stated, "General Motors has been exporting Isuzu trucks and buses since 1990 and we felt it was time to change our name to more closely match our business model in East Africa." In 1993, GM Corporation expanded the market reach of GM Kenya to include Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.

Mr. Lay added, "The future for GM East Africa is very bright indeed. Our vision, is to position Nairobi as the "MOTOWN" of East Africa with additional development and significant inter-regional trade."

 

One of the GM East Africa's most important strategic advantages is the export business. It is key to continued growth in Kenya and throughout the region. Presently, 30 % of GM East Africa's current production is destined for East African markets.

As the leading assembler and exporter of finished vehicles, parts and services to East African markets, GM East Africa Ltd. is a major player in promoting development and economic recovery in the region. Currently, Dunhill Motors and Tanganyika Bus represent General Motors in Tanzania, while Akamba and Kampala Auto Center are the local dealers in Uganda. GM East Africa also has active dealers in Rwanda and Burundi.

Over the last 25 year, General Motors East Africa Limited has been assembling and distributing vehicles in East and Central Africa.
