| WOLFSBURG, Germany - (Reuters) Volkswagen announced, that it
will open its first car assembly plant in Thailand. The plant is foreseen for the
production of theVW Passat and Audi A6 models for the Asian market. The size of the
plant is announced with 90,000 square-meter and its location is in the Lat Krabang area of
the Thai capital Bangkok. The Yontrakit Group is the local partner of Volkwagen. Output
this year is planned with 2,000 cars. The facility will initially employ around 400
workers.
The facility has the flexibility to produce twice or three times the current volume.
The new plant increases the number of Volkswagen Group plants in the region to seven.
Volkswagen cars are also produced in Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and the Philippines by
other firms under contract with Volkswagen..
